Judd McIlvain, crusader for the consumer, was 73

judd-McIlvain-v.jpgFormer KCBS investigative and consumer reporter Judd McIlvain died this week at home in the Los Angeles area. He was 73. In his heyday at Channel 2, he was The Troubleshooter who took on viewers' consumer issues and often got them solved. A former colleague, Brian Loring, posts on Facebook "I had the privilege of being Judd's unit producer for a couple years in the 90's. At the time I didn't realize, it was the best job I would ever have in journalism." McIlvain also reported for KTTV Channel 11 in Los Angeles and became a star in Houston before coming west. Jeff Wald, another veteran of television news in Los Angeles, posted that "Judd was a consumer crusader and truly cared about the viewers and their problems."

McIlvain had been running his own Troubleshooter website in recent years. The site announced his death.
