CBS LA gets a new VP and news director

Bill-Dallman-cbsla.jpgVeteran TV news executive Bill Dallman has been named vice president and news director of the CBS-owned duopoly stations in Los Angeles, KCBS-2 and KCAL-9. He most recently has been vice president of news at Fox Sports 1 in Los Angeles, but he has previously held top positions at KMSP-TV, the Fox-owned station in Minneapolis-St. Paul, and at KDVR-TV, the Fox-owned station in Denver.

“Bill comes to us with a great reputation as a terrific leader of large newsrooms, a consensus builder who brings out the best in his colleagues and a seasoned journalist who shares our deep commitment to producing high-quality newscasts,” Steve Mauldin, president and general manager of the duopoly stations, says in the flackage. “We are thrilled to welcome him back to the local news world, where he has enjoyed great success in a number of very competitive markets, and look forward to having him play a leading role in the continuing success of our stations.”

CBS LA says Dallman will come on in early September and be responsible for overseeing a news department that produces more than 60 hours of local newscasts a week. He succeeds Scott Diener, who stepped down in June. Interestingly, Diener's bio used to proclaim that the duopoly produced 70 hours a week.
