The base model (16 gigabytes of memory) is $499, 32GB is $599, 64GB is $699, and the top-of-the-line iPad, at 64GB and connection to a 3G cellphone network, is $829 (Wi-Fi availability on the lower-end models). These prices are quite a bit lower than had been expected, and they're bound to put the squeeze on the netbook market. The most obvious question is why would I need this, but we were saying the same thing when the iPhone came out and look what happened. NYT, LAT
