Going after Fleishman

City Controller Laura Chick announced yesterday that she plans to use her audit powers to dig into the $9 million public relations contract between the Department of Water and Power and Fleishman-Hillard. Interesting politics could be involved, since Chick is thought to be contemplating a run for mayor, and Fleishman is the unofficial in-house PR firm for Jim Hahn. His current press deputy worked for Fleishman, his closest former aide does now, and Fleishman's Doug Dowie advises the mayor on any number of issues. Stories in the Times, Daily News and Daily Breeze.

Also: Hahn offers to take Steve Lopez to a ball game.
