CarollaInfinity Broadcasting said today that Adam Carolla will replace Howard Stern on FM 97.1 beginning January 3. Stern's last live show before he moves onto satellite radio will air Dec. 16. Carolla will broadcast from Wilshire Boulevard and also be heard as Stern's replacement in San Francisco, San Diego, Phoenix, Portland and Las Vegas. David Lee Roth, formerly of Van Halen, will do the east coast.

Carolla is a local boy. He was the class clown at North Hollywood High and slept through a few courses at Valley College before moving on to co-host "Loveline" with Dr. Drew Pinsky on radio and MTV and "The Man Show" on Comedy Central. He currently hosts Comedy Central's "Too Late with Adam Carolla" and headlines TLC's "The Adam Carolla Project." His longtime collaborator Jimmy Kimmel will be a consultant to the new show. Also today. 97.1 rebranded itself as Free FM, a dig at Stern's foray into not-so-free satellite radio.
