Further cuts at NPR

Cinny Kennard's position as head of NPR West won't be filled, plus there are cutbacks in travel, training, salary raises and discussions with the unions about further reductions. Here's the memo from president and CEO Vivian Schiller at the Public Radio Program Directors website.

Noted: Madeleine Brand, the host of the late "Day to Day," said on Friday's final show that she has started a regular podcast called Parenting on the Edge. Host Alex Cohen posted today on her new blog that "there is something REALLY nice about not waking up at 4:30 am (something I had to do every day for the past two years)." She's working on a piece for California Report about the Voice of San Diego news website.
