KCET to air benefit for Japan relief

KCET is devoting the 8 to 11 p.m. block on Tuesday night to a live show raising money for Japan. All proceeds will go to tsunami and quake relief efforts through the U.S.-Japan Council, says KCET. KTLA anchor Frank Buckley and Fox 11 anchor Susan Hirasuna will co-host the show with actress/filmmaker Lily Mariye. Japan Consul General Junichi Ihara will be there, along with actors such as George Takei and other local Japanese Americans. Gene Otani, the lead anchorman for NHK World in Japan, will also take part.

The FCC needed to issue a waiver to let it happen on the KCET air; here's why. The benefit will re-air on Saturday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Added: They've got Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa booked live for 8:30 p.m.
