John Ziegler will come to Los Angeles in January and work the 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. shift "live and local," as they say, reports LA Radio.com. Ziegler was recently removed from a morning AM talk slot in Louisville after divulging intimate details about a TV anchorwoman he had dated. A TV face-off show also was cancelled this year. Ziegler's website proudly lists all the enemies he has made, including the Kentucky governor. The site also touts a page of "Zieglerisms," including these:
"Baseball is much like liberalism and organized religion...it seems like a great idea when you're young, but then most people grow up and get a clue."
"The female figure is the greatest known evidence that there might be a God...but the female psyche is an indication that this God has a very sick sense of humor."
"Bad sex is usually better for the man than the woman...unless he has a conscience, while great sex is usually better for the woman...unless she happened to grow up as a Catholic...or is socially impotent."
In a previous gig he was fired for using the n-word and wrote about it for the Jewish World Review. Your mileage may vary, but I'm not seeing any reason to set a KFI button in the car for this guy.
Well, considering that almost every other station on the AM dial in other cities (on the skip in LA) is carrying Art Bell, that's not much loss.
KFI has been annoying for years, though. Ever remember Snot & Lazy? Ed & Fred? Rodri? Whine Resnick?
Posted by: Paul at December 21, 2003 11:31 PMLets see, the guy gets fired in Louisville, allegedly for detailing some physical attributes of his former neswgal girlfriend, and winds up on a prime spot on 50000 watt KFI in the second largest media in the country. Praise the Lord!
Posted by: Lloyd at December 22, 2003 01:27 PMProving the exception that proves the rule, the obnoxiuous Jeff Levy and Melinda Lee left KFI. Leo LaPorte replaces Levy. Leo used to work with John Dvorak and talks to you like and adult, unlike Levy with his "I teach and you listen" garbage and cornball jokes.
Posted by: No at January 5, 2004 12:21 PMWell I'm gald Jeff Levy is gone his advices was wrong most of the time.
Posted by: pcxpert4u at January 7, 2004 01:03 PMI'm sorry, but 10PM absent George Noory in L.A. every night is really empty. This Ziegler guy is weak, and on a bad night, Coast To Coast is much more entertaining. George Noory isn't a legend, but he's a great host and a great guy, and he has the same guests and subject matter as Art always did. There are newschewers all day long on radio and TV, why would I want to listen to another one at 10PM when I'm trying to wind down?
Posted by: Gregg at January 19, 2004 11:34 PMIt is really refreshing to listen to John Ziegler - he is so enlightened. George Noory needs to start living in the real world again and im glad he is gone. KFI rules the airwaves and John Ziegler rules KFI - lol.
Posted by: John at January 21, 2004 03:37 PMKFI has some great shows: Rush Limbaugh; John & Ken; Dr Laura; Drudge; ; and even Phil Hendrie (funny, entertaining, sometimes gross subjects!; and even a bit of Bill Handel's stuff (but, too much air time, too self centered, too loud and apparently very greedy for center stage)! Some others are ok, some I turn off.
A VERY big disappointment was the departure of Jeff Levy...a gentlman and a real sharp and helpful computer guy. His replacement, LaPort, is no Jeff Levy and may not last very long!! Jeff's large following can find him Sat and Sun noon on KNX 1070.
Posted by: Spectator at January 24, 2004 12:56 PMI love listening to computer talk shows. Other than the one here in San Diego, I have also listened to "Jeff Levy On Computers" on KFI for several years, mainly because there are few alternatives.
It's interesting to hear the perception of other listeners which mirror my own perceptions. I did feel like he thought of himself as being hot stuff. He did come across as letting it be known in his own subconscious way that he is smarter than his own listeners. His patience was often short when it came to those not familiar with computer terminology and those not familiar with the way Windows works. He would tend to make others feel embarrassed by sarcastic, smart-ass remarks. It was almost as if he thought that because he was as popular as he was and because he had been on KFI as long as he had, that the he the valuable franchise of the station that management wouldn't dare touch.
I was VERY surprised to turn on the radio on the first weekend of 2004 and hear another voice by the name of Leo LaPort talking computers! It seemed as if KFI didn't miss a beat when it comes to filling the weekend afternoon airways with exciting hi-tech talk.
Not one ounce of ego and not an ounce of 'I'm smarter than you' sarcasm. You feel like you're talking to good buddy over a cup of coffee. A down-to-earth on-air personality and a pleasant voice to boot. Leo also seems to know just as much or more than Jeff Levy. Nice job KFI!
Posted by: Ron at January 24, 2004 03:43 PMLevy was terrible. His advice was always to reinstall software and his knowledge of true solutions was always weak. My hat is off for his departure.
Posted by: Scott at January 24, 2004 07:11 PMMelinda Lee and Jeff Levy were two of the redeeming factors on KFI. I still have Phil Hendrie and an occasional Bill Handel, but that's about it. I tuned out the rabid John and Ken months ago, and the self-righteous Dr.Laura and over-the-top conservative Rush years ago. Good luck KFI on finding an audience again.
Posted by: Diane at January 26, 2004 10:48 AM1. George Noory is knowledgeable, much more rational, and forms a good counterpart for Art Bell, who still hosts C2C on the weekends (and Art begins at 10 PM, not 1 AM!). George also has much more scientific content on his evenings and invites more real scientists as guests to discuss the weird issues that form Coast to Coast's core content. Art and George are a good team. That's why the show is #1 in nearly every market where it appears -- pretty much everywhere.
2. John Ziegler is a screaming right-wing idiot who propounds racism, sexism, and blatant prejudice of all types. He is much more far-right that Rush Limbaugh and has a shrill, really Goebbels-like aspect to his so-called "entertainment". I would stop listening to KFI just because of his hate spewing even if he hadn't bumped Coast to Coast.
3. It is easy and cheap to record the streaming audio of C2C the next day off the web. C2C's streamlink web site costs $5 a month -- what's more, the content has no commercials! To me that's worth the cost.
4. So long, KFI -- scream all you want, J&K, JZ, et al., fewer people are listening every day.
Posted by: Richard at January 29, 2004 02:58 PMRe: KFI
I think I'm done with KFI, as well. There's nothing that interests me on that station anymore. I used to be a Phil Hendrie fan, but I got tired of his political harangues, and his constant references to somebody "greased-up and bent-over" and other dainty situations. I also became weary of the rest of the opiniated screamers and product hawkers (other-wise known as 'radio personalities') on KFI.
I remember classier days, when KFI was under the auspices of Earl C. Anthony Broadcasting, and was the home of the Dodgers. In the mid-sixties I spent many evenings listening to Vin Scully painting vibrant word pictures of the action on the Dodger diamond.
I do, however, listen occasionally to Art Bell on weekend evenings. The show is kinda goofy, but no one compares to Art when it comes to intelligence and wit (and, yes, hucksterism). Usually thought-provoking. The down-side of falling asleep listening to Art Bell is waking up to shouting, slobbering Bill Handel and his merry band of sycophants.
I guess there's a market for that kind of radio, but I'm pretty much done listening to KFI.
Posted by: dave at February 1, 2004 09:27 PMIt seems to me that a Talk/News station which grabs the number one spot in the nation, planted on the coast (you can bet that the FISH aren't listening!), must be doing SOMETHING right...after all, even if ALL 13 of the previous posters stopped listening it wouldn't change the demographic of the listenership to the station by one hundedth of one percent. As for giving George (S)Noory the bump, I feel that it bodes badly when you take a show as popular as "Coast to coast AM" and degrade it to the point that you loose your live spot on the highest rated station in your market...
Posted by: ReadWryt at May 3, 2004 07:08 PMWhile I liked Melinda Lee and Jeff Levy, I felt too much of their programming was devoted to sponsors and promoting their own agenda, like computer shows. Very little time left for substantive dialogue. Leo gets a lot of advice in, as opposed to talking about biased, self serving matters.

I can't find an 800 number or an e-mail adddress for Mavis Beacon.
John Ziegler sucks. There is nothing original about his show, he’s just another right-wing nut put on by right wing Clear Channel. KFI’s ratings were great when they had George Noory on at that spot and I bet now Ziegler’s ratings aren’t even half of George’s. Does anyone know why KFI was so stupid to replace George with this idiot? I e-mailed KFI and I got a bullshit answer back.
Posted by: Kevin at July 3, 2004 03:30 AMJohn Ziegler is a boorish and ignorant radio host. He just laughed rudely over a caller who mentioned that George Bush's brother, Neil Bush was involved in the Silverado Savings & Loan scandal of the 80's. Ziegler had obviously never heard of this, hung up on the guy and called him crazy, as if the guy were making it all up. Ziegler needs to read a little bit more instead of just loudly spouting off his baseless right-wing wacko opinions. He's an annoying jerk!
Posted by: johanna at July 6, 2004 11:17 PMKFI didn't make #1 for nothing! They have continually done well with their sometimes controversial (and often very entertaining) lineups. I note that even KNX has moved from their all news format to more of the KFI-style talkradio. Love it or hate it, KFI is radio with a bite!
Posted by: humungus at August 4, 2004 01:50 AM

Arg. This means at least one and probably both of...
1. George Noory is a really boring replacement for Art Bell and the coast-to-coast ratings are going way down because of it (obvious).
2. KFI is seriously committed to becoming the most obnoxious station in the history of radio. So everyone except for Hendrie can't possibly take a breath between each screaming hyperventilating sentence ala John and Ken (also obvious).
