Michael (the other) Jackson lands at KNX

The staff at KNX Newsradio just received this email:

MICHAEL JACKSON RETURNS TO L.A. RADIO TO PRESENT EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEWS ON KNX 1070

(Los Angeles, CA July 16, 2004) Michael Jackson, renowned for his interviews with celebrities and probing exchanges with politicians, will produce exclusive interviews for KNX 1070 NEWSRADIO, it was announced today by David G. Hall, vice president, AM programming for Infinity Radio in Los Angeles. The first interview, a rare conversation with Walt Disney Chairman and Chief Executive Michael Eisner, will air on KNX during morning and afternoon drive times in the coming days.

This marks a return to Southern California airwaves for Jackson, voted the “Radio Talkshow Host of the Year” in 1997 – 98 by the National Association of Radio Talk Show Hosts and ranked #11 on Talkers Magazine’s list of "The 25 Greatest Radio Talk Show Hosts of All Time."

Jackson made his reputation as a longtime morning talk host on KABC, in the days before Rush Limbaugh made his brand of liberal-and-celebrity local affairs talk unworkable on AM.

Terrific news. Long anticipated.
Hopefully, this is a prelude to Michael getting a talk show slot on KNX. His brand of radio is much more appealling to a broad demographic than Melinda Lee's Food News weekend show.

Wonderful news! It will be good to finally have Mr. Jackson back on L.A. radio. In these sad days of madly waving attention getters using cheap tricks to lure listeners, a liberal voice of sanity returning to the airwaves is a great and sensible move.

It's wonderfula to have Michael Jackson back on radio. However it would be nice to have him comment on world affairs, in addition to his interviews.

Jackson catered to average/below average intellects. His hook was his musty old british accent, which allowed the west coast listeners to flatter themselves into believing they were listening to something highbrow on AM talk radio, when in fact every one of his shows were middle-of-the-road tedium.
Jackson isn't to be celebrated because he was a great broadcaster. He wasn't. His claim to fame was that he wasn't an asshole.

Michael will be welcomed by all of his friends.
We all missed his stimulating
and interesting conversations with distinguished personalities.

at last michael is back. we can't wait to hear his thoughtful reasoning of the events of the day. we hope that his interviews will be as incisive & biting as we remembered him. it would be helpful, if knx would give an approximate time for his appearance.

If I want to hear two pompous limousine liberals pontificating to one another I can dial over to KCRW. KNX has been an oasis for straight unvarnished news without political bias either way.

I wonder how sponsors and long-time loyal listeners are going to react to David G. Hall's attempt to NPR-ize KNX. Frankly, Jackson and KNX make a lousy fit.

GREAT NEWS! Hope this will lead to a daily morning show and give us a refuge from the other talk radio stations.

I have been a years-long Michael Jackson fan who has missed him terribly these last couple of years. Michael taught me so much about current events and made the learning more enjoyable with his keen sense of humor. I hope this is the beginning of a new talk show career for Michael Jackson!!!
