RACHEL
They'll let you go, right? When I tell them everything?
NAPOLITANO
Rachel, baby... I'm not your father.

She looks like she's been kicked in the gut.

NAPOLITANO
Your mother and I never took a romantic train ride. She told you that to get you to lead the police to me. She was manipulating you.
RACHEL
I knew it wasn't true.
NAPOLITANO
It doesn't mean I don't care about you just as much. I've known you since you were a baby.

She withdraws from him so suddenly it's like she doesn't even hear. Napolitano wishes he could erase the sting, but he knows he can't. They approach the road, where the last of six marked and unmarked SHERIFFS' CARS pulls up.

NAPOLITANO
Looks like a party.
DELAND
Yeah, a lynching party.

EXT. MT. LEE ROAD - CONTINUOUS - DAWN

A DOZEN DEPUTIES are fanning out, pointing rifles, shotguns and handguns at the approaching threesome. One of the Deputies, MAGUIRE, has a megaphone.

MAGUIRE
(through megaphone)
Get down on your knees and place your hands behind your head!
NAPOLITANO
(calling)
I'm Mayor Russell Napolitano. We need medical attention.
MAGUIRE
Down on your knees! Now!
