EXT. PARKER CENTER - DAY
A homeless man in the grubby semblance of a tux coaxes Brahms from the TWO STRINGS of a battered violin outside LAPD's downtown headquarters. Behind him, Napolitano’s hybrid turns into a ramp leading to underground parking. Riding his bumper is Deland's black-and-white.
INT. PARKER CENTER INTERROGATION ROOM - DAY
Celeste, frustrated by her ragged appearance, primps in the one-way mirror as Gallardo and Deland consult their notes at a desk. Suddenly concerned, she draws away from the mirror.
CELESTE
You're taping this, aren't you?
DELAND
If we can just get started...
CELESTE
I asked you a question, Detective.
GALLARDO
Yes, ma'am, we routinely videotape our interrogations for the benefit of both parties.
DELAND
Right now, our internal procedures are the least of your problems, Mrs. Davis. What about this blackmail scheme you told the mayor about?
CELESTE
I tell Russell a lot of things. Some of them are true.
DELAND
This is a serious offense, ma'am. We need some straight answers.
CELESTE
(points at window)
If any of that videotape ends up on YouTube or some TV gossip show, I will sue this department for more money than you two will make in your entire lives. Is that a straight enough answer for you?
The door opens and TWO UNIFORMED COPS enter. One wears TWO STARS on each collar. He is Chief of Detectives WALTER HOOVLER, 50. Gallardo does a double-take and jumps to his feet. Deland does too.
