Now it's Napolitano's turn to act clueless. Gallardo produces an evidence bag with Omar's wallet, keys and cell phone.

GALLARDO
These were all his effects.
NAPOLITANO
(holds up his hands)
Glove me.

Deland hesitates. Napolitano gives him a look.

DELAND
In case you haven't heard, you're not my boss anymore, you're not even a cop. Hell, after tonight, you're barely mayor.
NAPOLITANO
You need my help on this, and you know it.

After a beat, Deland nods reluctantly and the Forensics Guy hands over a pair of latex gloves, which Napolitano slips on like it's second nature, as --

DELAND
Fine, but if you screw this up, don't think you can just pull strings and make it go away, 'cause you can't.

Napolitano takes Omar's phone from the bag, flips it open and hits some buttons:

CLOSE on the screen: a list of calls made. SCROLL DOWN the list to one labeled RACHEL.

He hits a button, puts the phone to his ear, waits. Doing a pitch-perfect imitation of Omar:

NAPOLITANO
Yo, girlfriend...! Yeah, we all good, just chillin'... So where you at?

Deland exchanges a look with Gallardo, grudgingly impressed.

INT. KARAOKE CLUB - NIGHT

Dark, desolate karaoke club. CLOSE ON RACHEL, on stage, singing "Fever," very kittenish and seductive.
