EXT. MAYOR’S CAR – A BRENTWOOD STREET – NIGHT

The Lexus winds its way down the canyon road to Sunset.

INT. MAYOR’S CAR – NIGHT

Celeste slides the contents out of the manila envelope. It’s a hand-drawn map of L.A.’s west side.

CELESTE
A geological survey?
NAPOLITANO
More or less. Take a look.
CELESTE
I’ve seen plenty of these already. Larry’s been playing Monopoly for two and a half years above that subway route of yours.
NAPOLITANO
This has new information.

ANGLE ON MAP

It’s a Metro map of the proposed downtown-to-Santa Monica subway route, featuring major thoroughfares and architectural markings. The train line is depicted with dashes along Wilshire Blvd. Around the intersection of La Brea and Jefferson, there’s a big “M.”

CELESTE
There’s only one Metro station?
NAPOLITANO
The “M” is for methane. Look at the report. The methane field under La Brea is deeper than we thought.
