HENDRICKS
You don’t know how he died?
NAPOLITANO
Don’t tell me --
HENDRICKS
Yeah. It’s peat.

Hendricks scoops a bit of it onto a gloved finger and shows it to Napolitano, who looks at the side of the Chateau Marcella building. Lots of windows.

NAPOLITANO
Witnesses?
HENDRICKS
Not that I’ve heard. Cops have a team canvassing. Anyone awake might get a kick out of seeing the mayor at their door.
NAPOLITANO
(nods)
I’ll grab an “on duty” who can take copious notes.

EXT. HOLLYWOOD APARTMENT BUILDING - MORNING
The building’s front courtyard. Hendricks and Napolitano walk in with DETECTIVE ATKINS, 45, in tow.

NAPOLITANO
Time of death?
HENDRICKS
Working on it, but we know Larry definitely predeceased John Doe by a few hours.

The three men stop in their tracks as they notice something in the corner of the courtyard. Atkins puts a hand on his sidearm. Napolitano cautiously approaches and sees that it’s ANOTHER BODY, female, 40’s, scrunched up in the fetal position.

HENDRICKS
What do you know? It’s raining bodies.

Atkins feels for a pulse, gives the obligatory shake of the head. Napolitano squats to study the stiff. Embroidered on the victim’s sweater is a patch with the letter “O” in a distinctive font.
